I think this is a great idea, but you should really offer more options than just XP Home. Many universities run on Unix, so a Linux based laptop would be a good option, with something like Ubuntu Linux for the OS. Macbooks would be another option, especially for design and art students.
This is a great idea! But, the prices are kind of high for students - many of whom cannot work full time while in school and have loans.
